Description

Fixes the VS Code lineage panel not following the active editor on Windows. The webview compared model.full_path with the active file path using ===, which fails when drive-letter casing or path separators differ. Adds an isSameFilePath helper (normalizes \ to / and lowercases) and uses it at both comparison sites in vscode/react/src/pages/lineage.tsx. Missing full_path still yields no match.

Fixes #6172

Test Plan

From vscode/react on macOS: npx vitest run (new isSameFilePath tests failed before the helper existed, 40 pass after), npx tsc --noEmit clean, prettier clean on changed files. Not run on a real Windows machine.

Checklist

  • I have run make style and fixed any issues (ran prettier and tsc on the changed TS files; the Python linters are not relevant to this change)
  • I have added tests for my changes (if applicable)
  • All existing tests pass (make fast-test) (ran the vscode/react vitest suite only; no Python code changed)
  • My commits are signed off (git commit -s) per the DCO

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved file matching in lineage views so the active or focused file is recognized when its path uses different drive-letter casing or slash styles.
    • Missing paths and paths that refer to different files continue to be treated as non-matches.

…parators

Motivation: On Windows the lineage panel did not follow the active editor.
The webview compared model.full_path (from Python, e.g. `C:\proj\m.sql`)
with the active file path from VS Code (e.g. `c:\proj\m.sql`) using a
strict `===`, so no model matched and the selection was silently skipped.
Graph to file navigation was unaffected.

Approach: add an `isSameFilePath` helper that normalizes separators to `/`
and lowercases before comparing, and use it at both comparison sites in
vscode/react/src/pages/lineage.tsx (initial selection via get_active_file
and the changeFocusedFile handler). Behavior for a missing full_path is
unchanged (no match). Casing is ignored on all platforms.

Validation (run from vscode/react on macOS):
- `npx vitest run`: the new isSameFilePath tests failed before the helper
existed and pass after (40 tests pass in total).
- `npx tsc --noEmit`: clean. `npx prettier --check` on changed files: clean.
Not run: the extension on an actual Windows machine; the fix is based on
the path strings described in the issue and exercised by the unit tests.

Walkthrough

The lineage view now compares file paths after normalizing separators and casing. A shared utility performs the comparison, and tests cover matching, differing, and missing paths.

Layer / File(s) Summary
Path comparison helper and tests
vscode/react/src/utils/index.ts, vscode/react/src/utils/index.spec.ts
isSameFilePath returns false for missing paths. It compares paths after replacing backslashes with forward slashes and converting them to lowercase. Tests cover equivalent paths, different paths, and missing or empty paths.
Lineage model lookup
vscode/react/src/pages/lineage.tsx
Active-file and focused-file lookups use isSameFilePath to compare file paths with model full_path values.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue [#6172] requires active-file matching during initial lineage-panel selection and focused-file changes. vscode/react/src/pages/lineage.tsx now uses isSameFilePath at both comparison sites. vscode/react/src/utils/index.ts normalizes backslashes, forward slashes, and case. The helper returns false for missing paths. Tests in vscode/react/src/utils/index.spec.ts cover matching, separator and case differences, non-matching paths, and missing paths.

Explanation

The changes are limited to the path comparison helper, its two lineage-panel call sites, and focused unit tests. These changes directly support issue [#6172]. No unrelated product behavior or unrelated files are changed.

Docstring coverage is 50.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 2 functions across 3 files.

Add lineage selection coverage for both lookup paths.

The current tests cover only the helper. Add a focused lineage-page test that asserts the expected model or graph after initial active-file selection and after a focus change, using Windows paths with casing and separator differences.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Preserve path distinctions on case-sensitive filesystems.

On Linux, models/Foo.sql and models/foo.sql can be different model files. Both lineage lookups select the first normalized match, so focusing the second file can display the first model. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Use the project filesystem’s path semantics for comparison. Add tests for distinct case-sensitive paths and literal backslashes.

Based on learnings: native POSIX filenames can contain literal backslashes.
