Welcome to opencode-portable! This is the easiest way to use the powerful opencode AI coding assistant on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer—without installing anything. Whether you're a developer, student, or curious tech enthusiast, this tool lets you get AI-powered coding help from a USB stick, external drive, or any folder. Just double-click, pick a folder to work in, and start coding. When you're done, close it, and zero traces remain on your computer.
opencode-portable is a single, offline executable (just 138MB) that bundles everything you need to run opencode—a cutting-edge AI coding agent that helps you write, review, and debug code right in your terminal. No installation, no admin rights, no clutter. It's perfect for:
- Working on multiple machines (home, work, library)
- Keeping your work private on shared computers
- Carrying your AI tools on a USB drive
- Testing opencode without commitment
🎯 Download opencode-portable Now
- Visit this link to download the application.
- Click the download button on the page (it's the latest release).
- Save the downloaded file to a folder of your choice (a USB drive or your Desktop works great).
- No installation needed—you're ready to go!
- Double-click the downloaded file (it's called
opencode-portable.exeor similar). - A small window will appear asking you to pick a folder.
- Choose any folder where you want to work (e.g., a project folder, your Documents, or a folder on your USB).
- Click OK or Select Folder—and you're in!
- A terminal window will open with opencode ready to assist you.
- Type your coding question or task (e.g., "create a Python script to sort files" or "explain this error").
- The AI will respond right there with code, explanations, and suggestions.
- You're working offline—no internet connection needed after download.
When you're done, closing opencode is simple—and crucially, it leaves absolutely nothing behind on the host computer:
- Quick exit: Close the terminal window by clicking the X button in the top-right corner.
- Keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+Break) while the terminal is focused.
- Force quit: If needed, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, find
opencode-portable, select it, and click End Task.
After quitting, opencode-portable automatically cleans up:
- No temporary files left in AppData
- No registry entries
- No history or cache
- No background processes
Your work stays in the folder you chose; everything else is wiped on exit.
This launcher is built with privacy at its core. Unlike typical apps that scatter files across your system, opencode-portable:
- Runs 100% from its own folder (or a temp folder that self-deletes)
- Writes nothing to your system drive outside its own directory
- Clears all caches and logs on exit
- Leaves no startup entries or services
Take it anywhere:
- Copy the single
.exefile to any USB stick (FAT32, exFAT, NTFS—all work). - Plug it into any Windows 10/11 machine.
- Double-click and start working.
- When done, quit—the USB is clean and ready for the next machine.
opencode is your AI pair programmer. Here are common use cases:
- Fix bugs: Paste an error, get a fix.
- Write code: Ask for a script, function, or full module.
- Learn: Ask "what does this code do?" and get a clear explanation.
- Review: Ask for best practices or performance improvements.
- Refactor: Request cleaner, more efficient implementations.
It works with all major languages: Python, JavaScript, C#, Java, Go, Rust, and more.
The download includes:
- The main launcher (
opencode-portable.exe) – the full offline runtime - Helper scripts (optional) for advanced users:
start.ps1– PowerShell script to launch with custom settingsclean.ps1– Manual cleanup if you ever need it (rarely needed)
You can ignore these if you're a first-time user—just use the main .exe.
This is normal for portable software. Click More info → Run anyway. It's safe (MIT-licensed, open-source).
Some antivirus tools flag portable apps. Add the .exe to your AV exclusions or run it from a thumb drive (most AVs skip USB). The source code is public on GitHub—no malware, ever.
Make sure you're running the .exe directly (not opening it inside an archive). Extract it first if you downloaded a .zip version—but normally it's a single .exe.
Try running it from a folder with write permissions (e.g., Desktop). Avoid system folders like C:\Windows.

- Community: opencode has an active community for questions and tips.
