Java analysis recognizes CDI and Spring dependency injection patterns, including constructor, field, and method injection.
Framework analysis reports injection candidates, resolved bindings, and proxy targets, with certainty based on available selection evidence.
Proxy dispatch findings account for active targets and method eligibility; uncertain or incomplete selection evidence is reported as possible or unresolved.
Framework findings link to provider findings only when the match is exact or uniquely determined, while keeping the findings separate.
Analysis contexts support versioned framework binding metadata and legacy candidate, binding, and proxy-target lists.
Documentation
Updated the Java adapter documentation to describe framework binding metadata, supported analysis patterns, and certainty levels.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The adapter now accepts versioned CDI and Spring binding metadata. Source scanning captures injection points, bean candidates, producer methods, qualifiers, profiles, conditions, and proxy targets. Framework analysis uses this evidence to refine certainty and attach provider identities under defined matching rules. The Maven bootstrap script also changes archive validation and download handling.
Changes: Framework Binding Metadata and Java Enrichment
The contracts define candidate, resolved-binding, and proxy-target metadata and certainty rules. AnalysisContext stores the payload, and AnalysisContextLoader reads it from JSON. Validation and loader tests cover the contract and handoff.
Capture injection, bean, and proxy source evidence src/main/java/com/projectlightpath/analysis/java/SourceMetadataScanner.java
The scanner recognizes CDI and Spring injection points, bean candidates, producer methods, qualifiers, profiles, conditions, and proxy targets. It also records source structure, type information, and candidate details.
The framework model uses candidate and selection metadata to set certainty and describe injection and proxy facts. The adapter attaches provider IDs only when the provider match is unique and eligible. Tests and documentation cover certainty and link behavior.
Maven Bootstrap Download Handling
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Verify and download Maven archives spike/scripts/bootstrap-maven.sh
The script verifies cached and downloaded archives, tries Maven Central before the Apache archive, and uses retries and temporary files. It exits with an error if verification, download, or extraction fails.
Some injection and proxy facts can be over-promoted to definite or left unresolved. This happens for overloaded proxy targets without descriptors and for bare @Named or unlisted annotations. The Maven bootstrap can also accept a partial install or give no recovery hint after a killed run. These are bounded issues worth fixing before merge.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 1c84b
Maven downloads gain stronger authentication, and framework enrichment preserves separate facts and certainty states. The new cache lock can nevertheless survive a crashed process and block dependent builds. Cache ownership and downstream interpretation of binding identities remain assumptions requiring deployment-specific validation.
Retained concerns
Low · reliability · observed: The newly introduced per-version cache lock is removed only by the owning process’s exit handler. SIGKILL or host failure can leave it permanently present; subsequent bootstrap consumers time out without a recovery path. This strands the shared, integrity-checked build bootstrap for that cache root and Maven version until external cleanup. The behavior fails closed rather than executing an unverified download, limiting the concern to recovery and failure containment.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — Maven cache compromise would affect build commands executed with the invoking user’s authority. The relevant shared scope is the configured cache root and Maven version, not an established tenant or production-service boundary. Runtime cache write permissions were not established.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
observed — A valid archive does not authenticate an already-extracted installation: the reuse branch checks the installed executable’s presence and a separately verified archive. An actor who can replace cache contents could therefore substitute the executable. Executable-only installation trust predates this PR; the reviewed changes do not establish increased cache access or a newly introduced substitution path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Implicit provider links require a unique eligible callee and matching full target descriptor. Explicit metadata-supplied provider IDs are instead checked for membership in the provider fact set, making the metadata producer an identity-trust dependency. Both fact sets and their certainty remain preserved; external consumers’ interpretation was not verified.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Define cache ownership and crash recovery explicitly. Consider owner-aware stale-lock recovery and extraction into a temporary directory followed by atomic publication, without permitting recovery to steal a live lock or bypass archive verification.

A signal after mkdir succeeds but before the EXIT trap is registered can leave a stale lock. Later bootstrap runs then wait until someone removes the lock directory.
Ensure INT and TERM cannot leave a lock during acquisition, and remove the lock only when this process owns it. Registering traps before the loop is not sufficient if ownership is recorded after mkdir.

If Consumer imports api.* and injects Service, the scanner cannot resolve api.Service from the scanned sources. Without a matching selected binding row, it rejects the source candidates and emits an UNRESOLVED injection fact. The same gap prevents descriptor-bearing proxy metadata from matching.

@coderabbitai The new Java regressions are running in CI/CD: .github/workflows/adapter-tests.yml runs make adapter-test on every pull request, which executes the full Maven suite, followed by make spike-validate. The Maven lock timeout and signal-cleanup checks were additionally verified locally. Can you confirm whether you expect those shell-level checks to be added to the CI workflow as well?

Do not treat a descriptor-less proxy row as exact for overloads.
If a selected, active row for run has no descriptor, it matches both run() and run(String). With observed source metadata, both facts can become DEFINITE and receive the same provider ID. The row can also keep both targets for a Quarkus @Dependent bean.
Require an unambiguous method identity before using the row for certainty or a provider link. Preserve descriptor-less matching for non-overloaded methods. Add an overloaded fixture that checks the fallback certainty and prevents links from the ambiguous row. Independent exact provider matches can still link.

@jordigilh Yes. I recommend adding the lock-timeout and signal-cleanup checks to CI as regression tests. I would not make that a new merge requirement based on the evidence here.
The workflow runs make adapter-test, which invokes the bootstrap script, but it has no dedicated step for these failure cases. The local checks you reported provide useful verification for this PR. Automated checks would protect against future regressions.
The tests should verify that a timeout reports the lock path without removing another process’s lock, and that INT and TERM release an owned lock, including during acquisition.
Separately, the archive-authentication security finding requires an independently trusted digest. The script checks a digest, but I have not verified its provenance.
