ci: run integration tests in parallel forks - #3679
This reduces the integration test runtime from ~35 to ~13 mins
Run integration test classes in it.fork.count (default 3) forked JVMs in the integration-tests profile. Use -Dit.fork.count=1 for sequential runs.
Stop deleting CRDs after each test class in that profile (testsuite.deleteCRDs=false): about a dozen CR types are shared by several test classes, so one class deleting a CRD would break others running concurrently.
Add a SequentialIT JUnit tag; tagged tests run alone in a separate surefire execution after the parallel one. ShardSelectorIT is tagged because @EnableKubeAPIServer(updateKubeConfigFile = true) rewrites the shared kubeconfig while it runs.
OwnerRefMultiVersionIT now deletes its own mutated CRD, since it relied on the removed per-class cleanup to restore it.
Document the rules for parallel-safe ITs in AGENTS.md.
Testing
Verified the profile wiring (both executions run, forks used, testsuite.deleteCRDs reaches the forked JVMs, -Dit.fork.count override) by running a unit test through -Pintegration-tests; spotless is clean.
Not run against a cluster, so the speedup and stability are unmeasured. Needs a CI run; the fork count may need tuning for 4-vCPU runners.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Clarified how integration tests run in parallel and how to run them sequentially, including guidance for avoiding conflicts in shared cluster resources.
Tests
Improved integration test isolation and cleanup, and added wait conditions for cluster changes to complete.
Updated test resource short names to avoid collisions during parallel runs.
Configured integration tests to use three JVM forks by default while retaining forked processes for reuse.
Run integration test classes in it.fork.count (default 3) forked JVMs in the
integration-tests profile. CRDs are no longer deleted after each class since
test classes share them. Tests tagged SequentialIT (ShardSelectorIT, which
rewrites the shared kubeconfig) run afterwards in a separate execution.
OwnerRefMultiVersionIT now restores its mutated CRD itself.

It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The integration-tests profile now runs tests in three reusable forks and retains CRDs. Documentation and selected integration tests address shared-cluster constraints, kubeconfig use, CRD lifecycle, and short-name collisions.

Summary
Configure parallel test execution pom.xml, AGENTS.md
The integration-tests profile sets three reusable forks and disables CRD deletion. The guidance describes parallel and sequential test commands and shared-cluster constraints.
Use injected kubeconfig in shard selector tests operator-framework/src/test/java/io/javaoperatorsdk/operator/baseapi/shardselector/ShardSelectorIT.java
The test creates its admin and shard-operator clients from the injected kubeconfig YAML. The annotation no longer enables updates to the shared kubeconfig file.
The tests wait for CRD deletion; the CRD-presence test also waits for a reconciliation before applying the CRD. Its reconciler exposes an execution count. Three test resource short names change.
operator-framework/java-operator-sdk#3678: Selects category-specific Maven profiles for CI integration tests; profile selection affects which test configuration CI uses.
Integration tests run in parallel by default, with a sequential override. No actionable merge-blocking risk was established.

Disabling CRD cleanup exposes a duplicate short-name collision that prevents operator startup and a deletion race that can incorrectly activate a dependent on repeated test runs.

Reject unmatched integration-test selectors.
The profile-wide failIfNoSpecifiedTests=false allows a misspelled -Dtest=SomeIT selector to make both executions finish without running a test. Remove the override instead of moving it to one execution. Surefire's default failIfNoSpecifiedTests=true will then fail when the selector matches no class, while valid selectors targeting either execution remain supported because tag filtering occurs after class selection.

Give CRDs with clashing short names unique ones, since CRDs are no longer
deleted between test classes. Wait for the dependent CRD deletion in
CRDPresentActivationConditionIT before creating the primary. Limit
failIfNoSpecifiedTests=false to the sequential execution so mistyped test
selectors still fail.

Wait for the first reconciliation before applying the dependent CRD, so the
cached 'CRD absent' result is guaranteed to exist. Under parallel load the
primary's first reconcile could run after the CRD was applied, activating the
dependent.

🔵 Needs a closer look
A cluster-backed CI run is needed to validate isolation, cleanup reliability, retained-CRD interactions, and resource usage with three concurrent integration-test forks.

🟡 Changes recommended
The test ordering is module-local, so parallel CI modules can still create clients while ShardSelectorIT rewrites the shared kubeconfig, risking connections to the wrong API server or failures during the rewrite.
Inject the kube config of the test API server instead of updating the
kubeconfig file, so the test is safe to run in parallel with other tests,
including ones in other modules. This makes the SequentialIT tag and the
separate sequential execution unnecessary, so they are removed.
