Description

Adds a Mosaic Stepper: a "Step 1 of 3" label followed by one pill per step, with the current step wide and dark.

<Stepper value={1} max={3} />
<Stepper value={step} max={3} onValueChange={setStep} />
  • Props follow Base UI naming (value / max / onValueChange), matching Mosaic's Radio. Steps are 1-based and controlled only.
  • Without onValueChange, the segments are decorative (aria-hidden) and the label carries the progress. With it, each segment is a button named "Step N", and the current one has aria-current="step".
  • Hovering an upcoming segment also highlights the upcoming segments before it, in CSS only, via stylex.when.siblingAfter.
  • The label and the button names are props with English defaults (label, countLabel, stepLabel), like Pagination.
  • The changeset is empty because @clerk/mosaic's package entry doesn't export components yet.
Light Dark
Progress Progress, light Progress, dark
Hovering step 4 Hovering the last segment, light Hovering the last segment, dark

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The pull request adds a controlled, 1-based Stepper component with styled progress segments, optional clickable steps, accessibility attributes, and value normalization. It adds component tests and exports the component and its props type. It also adds Stepper stories, registers them in the documentation viewer, and documents the component’s props and styling hooks.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Suggested reviewers: austincalvelage, maxyinger

Merge Risk: Low · up to a3196

Stepper styles will be absent from the package stylesheet, and touch targets are small. The CSS omission is currently latent because components are not yet exported from the package entry.

Clicking segments 3, 1 and 4 moved the stepper to each step. The label followed each click, and only the chosen pill turned wide and dark with aria-current="step".

Export Stepper from the CSS entry barrel.

packages/mosaic/src/styles/index.ts is the entry for the isolated CSS build. The build reads its module graph to produce styles.css. That file does not export Stepper, and no other file in packages/mosaic/src imports the stepper. The stepper atoms in stepper.styles.ts are therefore not in the built stylesheet. The Mosaic architecture rule requires every new component to be exported from styles/index.ts, or its CSS never ships.

Export Stepper and StepperProps from the CSS entry barrel in styles/index.ts so
the isolated CSS build includes the stepper atoms from stepper.styles.ts. Place
the exports alongside the existing component and prop-type exports.
